CHICAGO News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch, who briefly considered tearing down the pay wall when he acquired The Wall Street Journal last year, unveiled an aggressive strategy of charging for all the massive company’s news Web sites and pursuing aggregators who use its content.
“We can be platform-neutral, but never free,” Murdoch told analysts in a conference call Wednesday. “The digital revolution has opened many new and inexpensive methods of distribution but it has not made content free. Accordingly, we intend to charge for all of our news Web.”
