O’s agree to trade Sherrill to Dodgers, for third base prospect Josh Bell and pitching prospect Steve Johnson, likely replaced by Jim. Johnson as a closer.

The Orioles have agreed to send closer George Sherrill to the Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon, but an announcement won’t be made until all the parties involved are notified and medical records are cleared. In return, the Orioles would receive 22-year-old switch-hitting third baseman Josh Bell, who was batting .296 with 11 homers and 52 RBIs at Double-A Chattanooga, and pitcher Steve Johnson, a Baltimore native and St. Paul’s graduate whose father, Dave, pitched for the Orioles and now is a MASN broadcaster.
